Healthy Back to School Snacks

Hopefully by now you're pretty settled into the new school year; you've been added to all the group chats and spend a nice amount of time in the carpool lane :)  I know I am. In fact I'm writing this from the pickup line!

If you're sending lunch from home, snacks and lunch ideas are probably top of mind. In all honesty, it's my first year making homemade lunches and I secretly love it! I can pack my little one a nutritious and tasty lunch and be more aware of what they're eating the majority of the day.

There are obviously your child’s favorite snacks like veggie straws, Made Good bars, chickpea puffs and apple sauce pouches. Those are all great, but if you'd like some minimally processed snack ideas to add to the rotation these are some of my favorites.

Veggies with Hummus Dip. Snap peas, cucumbers, and red peppers are usually a top favorite.

Seasonal Fruits. Cut up peaches, berries or apples with almond butter on the side.

DIY Trail Mix. If your child's school allows nuts a mix of their favorite nuts, seeds, and raisins is an amazing way for them to get some omega 3s.

Cottage Cheese/Cheese Squares with Crackers.

Roasted Seaweed Snacks. We buy this brand at Costco.

I also like to make these healthy baked good treats:

Healthy Oatmeal Muffins

1 cup oats

2/3 cup of whole wheat flour

3/4 tsp. baking soda

Dash of cinnamon

1/4 cup avacado oil

3/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce

1/2 cup honey

2 egg whites

Hand mix together

Optional add ins: Unsweetened choclate chips/ blueberries/ nuts..

Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes.

Healthy Oatmeal Cookies - I love this recipe. I swapped the butter for some coconut oil and it was perfect.

Wishing everyone a healthy and safe new school year!
